COCKTAILS and DRINKS

Whether you fancy a glass of wine at home or heading into central London for a cocktail or three, I've got some great recommendations for you.

First let's talk cocktails. This week is the annual cocktail event Cocktails in the City, taking place from Thursday 10th - Saturday 12th March at One Mayfair. The three nights will see 20 world-renowned bars serving cocktails in this stunning four floor building, where there's also a rooftop BBQ. You can experience so many different drinks and bars without having to leave the building! There's live music, masterclasses and a liquid nitrogen bar. Tickets are £15 and include one cocktail. If you want to drink more cocktails (of course you do), then they're all £7.50 on the night.

If you can't make Cocktails in the City next week, or you're just looking for a more regular cocktail spot then try the newly opened Cocktail Trading Company at the top of Brick Lane, which is located in an intimate ground floor space and is the brand's permanent flagship bar. The interiors of the venue are a mixture of urban and luxury décor; rustic stone flooring, beautiful wood panelled ceilings and an array of quintessentially British artwork. Featuring a 400 strong back bar, CTC Brick Lane focuses on unusual and rare spirits from around the world. We loved the One in a Million cocktail we had, made from chilli tequila, lime, watermelon, rhubarb and a dash of rose - just the right balance of punchy, tangy and delicious.

If a quiet glass of nice wine at home is more your thing, then why not try out wine box company Le Petit Ballon. They hand pick two specially selected bottles of wine each month that are sent direct to your home (or chosen address). Your box gives you the chance to try new wines and learn about what you're trying. They pledge to send you wines that you can't get from traditional distributers, and give you the option to order more of the wines you've tried direct from them at an exclusive price. Boxes range from £24.90 (the Apprentice Box) to £39.90 (the Master Box) per month.

Another wine I've tried recently that I really wasn't expecting to love, but actually really did was Bouvet Rubis, a red sparkling wine from Loire sparkling wine house, Bouvet Ladubay. It's a really well balanced wine bursting with red berry flavours though not overly sweet. It's semi-dry and great on its own, or paired with chocolate or fruit puddings. It's made from 100% Cabernet Franc and is available at Majestic for £13.49 RRP, though is currently on offer at £11.99.
