DEAD DOLL'S HOUSE, ISLINGTON

Summer seems to be finally eeking its way to London and what better way to celebrate than with a Bacchanalian feast. According to Google Bacchanalian means characterized or given to drunken revelry which seems an apt way to celebrate this heatwave/the summer. So The Dead Dolls House on Upper Street are putting on a Bacchanalian Feast every first Thursday of the month. And drunken revelry or not, it's definitely worth a visit for the food alone. The venue is beautiful too - black and white chevron tablecloths made stunning by the simple yet plentiful strings of fairy lights.

For £60 a head you get a welcome cocktail, four courses of delicious food, with paired wines, and a cocktail to see you on to the dance floor/on your way home. The night I was invited to try out the menu we feasted on on the best starters I've tried at a pop up - huge plates of perfectly cooked squid doused in the pineapple and chilli salsa. All the food is served on sharing plates and there's vast quantities of everything.

Having thought not much could outdo the squid starter I was corrected when mains arrive. Charred jerk sea bream with buttery corn on the cobs, covered in fresh herbs, chilli, lemon and butter. The epitome of sunshine on a plate. And again, so much of it. We guzzled as much as we possibly could...

The meat course of goat and roast pepper skewers followed but for me the winner was still the jerk fish.

After all that food there was no need for anything more for pudding than some grilled peaches with mascarpone and mint - the perfect light finish to a wonderful meal.

I've asked for the recipe for the jerk fish recipe and hope I can do it justice recreating it at home. To try the original though, get your tickets for the next Bacchanalian feast here. Such a fun night out :)
