FAT CHEEKS LOVE BITES

Friday night saw my first ever visit to a Fat Cheeks pop up restaurant, and I was not disappointed.

Fat Cheeks had managed to secure a brilliant new venue for their LOVE BITES Valentines venture, in the heart of Shoreditch, where they accommodated 80 diners for the evening. We were greeted with a delicious Grey Goose fizzy cocktail (I couldn't tell you what was in it, apart from Grey Goose, but it was sweet and refreshing) and welcomed into a huge photography studio. The curtains were closed between the bar area and the dining room, but I did manage to get 1 quick shot of the room before people took their seats. It was really impressive, with 4 long tables of 20 in front of a huge infinity screen, on which they played clips from Marilyn Monroe films.

We took our seats, met our neighbours for the evening and were served our first course of warm, rich oyster and champagne soup in a shot glass. A brilliant start to the meal. This was followed by delicious crab cocktail with cucumber jelly and avocado, which is my idea of food heaven.

The starter was also interspersed with a bit of live opera, courtesy of the 'waitresses' who burst into song whilst wandering through the tables, which gave me the fright of my life when they first started, but their voices were beautiful, and carried over 80 people chatting, without the use of microphones.

Time for mains, and we were served sides of salmon to share between 6, which was a really nice touch, and meant I chatted with a whole group of people I didn't know at the start of the night. The salmon was fresh and delicate, and accompanied by crushed olive and caper potatoes and a really good tomoto based sauce.

The chefs deserved a medal for getting all the food plated and out from their tiny cooking station in the foyer of the building. But they did it perfectly, and course 4 was desert - a white chocolate and lime cheesecake that was a wonderful palate cleanser, but one course too many for me!

Full tummies and fat cheeks, we hit the dance floor briefly before sloping off back to West London, after a very fun evening.

There was rumour that this was Fat Cheeks' last London dining event, but I really hope it isn't, as they've got a great thing going on!!
